Ashley is a heart encourager, speaker and movement-maker to women on a mission. She teaches and empowers women to craft movements for their brands to increase their visibility, audience, and impact. You may also know her as the visionary behind #theimperfectboss; a movement that is liberating thousands of women from perfection.
After working many dead-end jobs, she realized she had to create her dream career. So, she did.
What is the name of your business, what do you do in business and how long have you been in business?
My business is under my personal name, so my name is Ashley and I run Ashley Beaudin! I have been in full-time business for just under two and a half years. I help women turn their messages into movements for their brands so that they can grow their audiences and blow up with impact. I also have a huge heart for encouraging women whenever I can.
What is your career or educational background that led you into this business?
I have an undergraduate degree in Human Rights and out of that education really developed a heart for activism, mobilizing people and for empowering women which you can see in my business today. After working many dead-end jobs, I realized I had to create my dream career. So, I did.
Who influenced you to start your business and how did they influence you?
When my business first started, I was really inspired by the blogging movement and how many women had taken to the online space to express their voice. It showed me that their room was for me too.
How do you practice work, life, balance?
Work/life balance is definitely a journey I am forever on. I like to set up my weeks so that I take one day off and practice my daily self-care routine.
What does your business teach other small business owners and what are some of the changes that you have seen?
I teach business owners how to create movements for their brands and in that, also teach a lot about messaging and community building. It has been interesting over time watching the trends change on how to bring together people online. I’ve watched different trends rise and fall such as Twitter chats, Facebook groups, blog tours, and even utilized most of these themselves. You need to be willing to change. You need to be willing to meet people where they are. And more than ever, I think there is a hunger in people for a community which is one of the many reasons I believe in building communities and movements for brands.
You need to be willing to change. You need to be willing to meet people where they are.
How does your business offer that signature touch in comparison to your competitors?
I don’t personally know of a lot of movement makers for women in business! That makes me stand out alone. I also have a relentlessly encouraging spirit.
What has been your biggest highlight of being in business so far?
My biggest highlight so far has been the birth of The Imperfect Boss movement where I was able to stand out in the creative industry, start a dialogue and impact hundreds of lives in the process. Makes my heart just melt.
What would 1 bit of advice that you would give to someone thinking about starting a business be?
If the dream is in you, you’re the one to do it. So because of that, disqualification is not even an option. But my other piece of advice is to know who you are in your business, but also outside of it. Know who you are as a human being.
In 5 years from now, where do you see your business?
In five years, I see my business becoming the go-to resource for those who want to create movements for their brands and non-profits. I’ll likely have a book under my belt and be gathering women in events that have such a potent culture of encouragement, that they just step into the room, and they’re changed.
What is 1 fun tidbit about yourself that you would like to share?
I have the loudest laugh you’ve ever heard. It took me awhile to embrace it, but now you can’t stop me. 😉
Can you give us some deets’ on some of your upcoming business plans?
I am looking forward to planning my next The Imperfect Boss campaign happening in September! It is going to be amazing! I am also launching a podcast this spring for movement makers.
Are there any other business gems that you would like to share about your business experiences, plans, or lessons?
I’ll give you three.
- Know your message and speak it everywhere you can. This will make you stand out.
- Set boundaries around your vision and you won’t lose yourself in the hustle or even the dreams of other people.
- Movement making is just giving people the opportunity to experience your message and be changed. You can start one today.
